VP Debate

Spin! Spin!.....I watched the debate last night as many of you did....and I did not see or hear anything different that these 2 candidates haven't already put out there...so I think they were a wash.......Both I thought did a good job witht he debating process. I can't say one or the other won the debate. Depending on who was being interviewed on the big news channels the spin doctors were out in force last night, spinning their preference as to was the winner. The winner actually was the person sitting in front of the TV set watching the debate themselves. Both men had their own script and spouted their campaign sound bites...which leads me to believe wondering...Is this really their beliefs or is this what they are just saying to win an election.
Does it really matter what they promise? or what they tell you now....I do believe that our country went to war for the wrong reasons...and as time goes by..it is being proven...but I do support our troops now that were are there....Whether you believe in the war or not...Support our Troops

As a historian, I have to say it is still too soon to pronounce judgement upon the war in the sense of right or wrong. We did not invade a country whose people have our western mindset and therefore our understanding.

Weapons, no weapons, terror ties, no terror ties, who knew what and when did they know it, and the other if's, and's, or but's about what we are attempting to deal with in the face of sketchy news information from people whose view is equally stilted or vague leaves us to conclude either too much or too little. We question our inteligence because it is politically expedient to do so. Had we conducted ourselves prior to initiating the landings on D-day as we do today, we never would have landed on the continent of Europe. We know now that it lead to the eventual end of the war, we did not know then that it would be anything but a disaster.

We also do not know really what the government knows but only what it reveals. We still do not know with 100 percent certainty (and what is ever that?) about what Iraq possessed prior to the invasion and what it may have disposed of in the build up despite the pronouncements of the many who have grabbed our attentions lately with "no evidence" statements. It is too soon and the airwaves are too charged with political "spin" to make any decision on the justifications for the war. Even if as time goes on it is discovered that Saddam never had (he had once, had the infrastructure to, and had the chemical means spread across his country in the many pesticide plants - chemical weapons are but the combination of various pesticides, Sarin being just one of them)any of the WMD's that we thought he had, in the end accounting it was a gamble taken based upon evidence discovered via intelligence gathering.

The real WMD was Saddam himself.

Whether there were stockpiles of WMD in Iraq or not....Hussein was intent upon having them, and would have pursued this course once the sanctions were lifted.

Saddam was also a state sponsor of terrorism, which IMO, was reason enough to remove him.
